Alice Marie Jones, age 97 of Ames, passed away on December 30th, 2022 at the Northridge Village in Ames. Alice Marie was born on May 21st, 1925, in Northboro, Iowa to Roy Franklin Eberle and Theresa Alice Rowse Eberle. She graduated from High School in 1942 in Coin, Iowa and then went on to Maryville, Missouri Teacher's College, Simpson College and Drake University where she earned her teaching degree. Alice Marie began teaching in Zearing, Iowa and there met Joseph Leo Jones, a newly discharged Marine. On August 12th, 1945, they were united in marriage at the Zearing Christian Church. They made their home on a farm northeast of Zearing where they raised their five sons. When all the boys were in school, Alice Marie went back to teaching in Clemons, Collins and NESCO. She enjoyed following her son's and later on her grandchildren's sports activities throughout the year. She was active in her church, the church choir, teaching Sunday School and sang as a soloist for many weddings and funerals. She was involved in many community activities and loved reading to children at the public library and had a wonderful card ministry that encouraged many. One of her great joys was helping Leo build their dream home on the farm. She also loved traveling on family vacations to Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, and South Dakota just to name a few. She was also able to travel to Brazil and England as well as take a cruise to Alaska which she truly enjoyed. Following the death of her husband in 1989, Alice Marie moved to Ames and became a faithful volunteer at Mary Greeley Medical Center and Fellows Elementary School. Alice Marie will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother as well as by the many students she taught over the years. Left to cherish her memory are her four sons, Alan (Dixie) Jones of Forest City; David (Joan) Jones of Polk City; Jim (Carol) Jones of Appleton, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law Linda Jones; Scott (Margaret) Jones of Ames together with 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, son Rick; two sisters, Geraldine and Louise and one brother, Walter. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2022, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the Collins Christian Church in Collins. Her funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. immediately following visitation at the Collins Christian Church. Burial will follow at the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing, Iowa.
