Clifford Ray Schwarz, 79 of Baxter passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter with Reverend Teressa Clark officiating. A visitation will follow the memorial service at Bethany Church from 2:30- 4:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Clifford was born on August 7, 1936 in Newton, Iowa to John and Mabel (Hammer) Schwarz. He graduated from Newton High School in 1954. He also attended classed at Drake University. Following school, Clifford went to work for Maytag. He also joined the Iowa National Air Guard. He married Darlene Krampe on June 30, 1957. They raised their family in Baxter. He retired from the Air Guard with 21 years of service and Maytag after 30 years of service. In later years Clifford and Darlene began farming their family's farms. Clifford was very active as was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ where he served as President of the church board. He also held office on the Baxter City Council, Baxter Economic Development, and Jasper County Economic Development. He was a member of the Silver Wheels car club. As a true explorer, he and Darlene visited all 50 states, Australia, parts of Europe, and Asia. His hobbies included camping, planning bus trips, playing cards, farming, woodworking, cooking, and helping others by paying it forward. When asked the things he loves the most in life, Cliff replied, "wife and family." Those left to cherish his memories are Darlene; loving wife of 58 years, daughters Brenda Schwarz and Carla (Jim) Brewer; grandsons Alex and Blake Brewer; sister Shirley Heck; brother Frank Schwarz; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany United Church of Christ, or the Clifford Schwarz Memorial Fund for the family to make various donations. Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Clifford and his family.
