David Cool, 76, of Baxter, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the Baxter Community Center from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Jeanette Watters officiating. Burial in Restland Cemetery will be held at a later date. David was born in Newton, Iowa on November 29, 1942 to Charles and Ida Mae (Vansice) Cool. He grew up in Baxter and graduated with the Baxter High School class of 1961. Following school, he joined the Air Force and served during Vietnam. After David was honorably discharged from the Air Force he returned to Newton where he married Karen Skoog on April 16, 1966. The couple resided in Newton where they raised their children. David worked as a truck driver for Bisom Truck Line until his retirement in 2007. David loved spending time with his family, most especially his grandkids, spending time on his farm, and watching NASCAR. Those left to cherish his memory are his children Paula (Zane) Thompson of Newton, IA, and Brian (Danielle) Cool of Leawood, KS; grandchildren Trista and Trent Thompson, and Caroline, Madelyn, and Harrison Cool; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred Cool, and grandson Grant. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
