Obituary

Delores "Dee" Adele Pyle, 84, formerly of Baxter, Iowa, passed away onSaturday, February 3, 2024, at the Independence Village in Ankeny. Her "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2024 in Ankeny. Dee was born on August 20, 1939, in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Arthur and Adele (Safaka) Metten. She grew up in Kenosha and graduated Bradford High School in 1957. Dee worked at Howard Johnson's in the catering department in her earlier years. She married Jerry Miller in 1961 and to this union two children were born. In 1975, they moved their family to Baxter. Dee went to school to become a phlebotomist in 1991 and worked in healthcare until she retired in 2006. She married Gary Pyle in 1992 and she stayed in Baxter until moving to Ankeny in 2019. She belonged to the Catholic Church, and she also attended Baxter Congregational Church. Dee loved spending time with her family, children and her inherited kids, and her pets. She also loved music and dancing, socializing, a good grill out, cooking and baking, gardening, bringing a smile to people, and being the hostess with the mostest. Dee always made sure her guests were well fed and had a cocktail in hand. Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Randy (Sundee) Miller of Mansfield, TX and Jerrie Lynn (Mike) Makovec of Ankeny, IA, grandchildren Savannah (Fred) Miller of College Station, TX, Owen Makovec of Marion, IA, Isabel Makovec and Miley Makovec of Ankeny, IA, and nieces Chantal (Bobby) Unanski of Gilbert, AZ, and Shara Duty of Zion, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary Pyle, brothers Donald Metten and Robert Metten, grandson Coleman Miller, grandson Reed Benenate, and great-granddaughter Thea Stratton-Miller, among other friends close to her heart. Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Baxter has been entrusted with the cremation care.
