Denny was born in Eldora, Iowa on October 29, 1951, to Paul and Loretta (Howard) Wheelock. He grew up in Zearing and attended NESCO High School where he graduated with the class of 1969. He then worked in construction and agriculture until 1979 when he moved to the Independence area where he worked for the Buchanan County Co-op and then to Jesup Farmer's Co-op where he was active in the Jesup community. He played softball in his younger years and was well known in the area. He also enjoyed several fishing trips up north with friends. Denny loved helping neighbors on the farm and outdoors, often lending a hand outside of work. During this time, he was a part time truck driver whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed driving and always referred to truck driving as "Professional Sight Seeing". He began trucking full time in the late 1990's and in 2001 joined his families' trucking businesses for the next 16 years. Denny then worked for Max Wickman at MTM Trucking, LLC in Boone, Iowa and moved back to Zearing. Denny loved being a "Professional Sight Seer" and took pride in hard work. He had a warm personality and was well liked by the people he encountered and worked with. He also made friends of his health care nurses and doctors and could always make them smile, leaving a good impression.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Jeremy (Terri) Wheelock of Boone, IA, Todd (Teresa) Wheelock of Rowley, IA, Ryan (Julie) Wheelock of Lytton, IA, and Dan (Heather) Wheelock of Independence, IA; grandchildren Kayla Cook, Brady (Megan) Wheelock, Trevor Wheelock, Kameron Wheelock, Maranda Wheelock, Rachel (Robert) Solon, Kimber Wheelock, Eli Wheelock, Adlen Wheelock, Sadie Wheelock, Will Wheelock, and Avery Wheelock; 3 great-grandchildren and1 on the way; siblings Bob (Marcy) Wheelock, Pauletta Richards, and Becky (Ed) Burr; many nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins.
