Obituary

Dianne Carol (Detwiler) DeBruin, 74, passed away at Bethany Life in Story City, Iowa on Feb. 12, 2017 after complications with rapidly progressing Parkinson's Disease. Her visitation and funeral will be held at Colo United Methodist Church at 602 4th Street in Colo, IA (50056) on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. The visitation will be at 10:00 am, followed by funeral at 11:00. She will be buried in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing, IA next to her grandson, Nick. Dianne was born in St. Louis to John and Hortense (Vollmer) Detwiler. She has one sister, Colette (Detwiler) Clark. Dianne attended Affton High School where she met her sweetheart, Jon DeBruin, who she later married on Oct. 10, 1964. She went on to graduate from Kirksville University with a degree in education and later Western Illinois University with her Master's degree. She taught third grade at Elijah Buell Elementary in Clinton, Iowa for 29 years. Dianne has been an active member of PEO, the First Presbyterian Church of Clinton, and the II Antique Auto Club. Dianne enjoyed singing in the church choir and hosting book club. Dianne is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jon; her sister, Colette of Keokuk, IA; her son Eric (Vickie) DeBruin of Manchester, MO; her daughter Erin (Doug) Hulshizer of Colo, IA; her grandchildren, Allison, Kate, David and Megan; her nieces Sarah and Meg. Dianne is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Nicholas. Memorial contributions may be directed to the 1st United Presbyterian Church of Clinton, 400 5th Ave S, Clinton, IA 52732.
