Donald Morris Roy, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Wednesday October 17, 2018 in Des Moines, IA at the age of 86. Don lived an incredible life which he mainly spent with his rather large family. He is survived by his son David (Jody) Roy and their 4 children Michael, Dustyrose, Levi and Robbee Roy; daughter Annette (Marc) Zehring and their 7 children: Angela (Stephen) Tipton, Adam (Jenn) Zehring, Amber (John) Twohig, Amanda (Ryan) Eggers, Alaina (Brenden) Eilander, Aric Zehring, and Arryn (Vincent) Zehring-Filippelli, also his 11 great-grandchildren: Ace, Trent and Zakk Tipton, Kale and Ryan Zehring, Connor and Lily Twohig, Leah, Rylee, Evelyn and Maximus Eggers, as well as extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his previous wife Carolyn and his grandson Alan Zehring. Donald was a veteran of the United States Army, actively having served 3 years. He was a 25-year retiree from the State of Iowa Liquor Control Division as well as working 20 years and retiring from Levi Strauss in Henderson, NV. We can never remember him missing a day of work despite never having learned to drive. Grandpa was quite the crooner. Known in the ol' days as "Diamond Don", he would regale all the ladies with his smooth Sinatra voice. He was an active bowler throughout his years and made sure to teach his family their proper English when playing pool. Grandpa loved his word jumbles and puzzles and was one of the few elites in this world that could do the NY Times crossword in pen. And of course, he did all of this while never wavering loyalty to his St. Louis Cardinals. He was THE MAN and he will be forever missed. Services will be held privately by the family.
