Donnie Eugene Childers, 72, of Polk City, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Polk City. Immediately following the visitation his memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Todd Bunge officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Donnie was born on November 22, 1945 to Floyd and Jewell (Dotson) Childers in Salinas, California. His childhood was spent growing up between California and Arkansas as he traveled back and forth with his family as they worked. After school he moved to Des Moines where he began working at a car wash. He later got a job with Glen-Gery Brick Factory. Donnie married Jane Langenwalter in Konke, Iowa on May, 27, 1966. The couple moved to Polk City where they raised their family. Donnie retired from the brick factory in 1998. He then took a job in the sign business and worked with them for 5 years. Donnie enjoyed, fishing, boating, collecting clocks and signs, and traveling with his family. Those left to remember Donnie are his wife Jane Childers of Polk City, IA; daughter Amy Childers of West Des Moines; grandchildren Sasha Childers, Annalyshia Carreras, Nikita Childers, Diego Carreras, Marcelo Carreras, and Adrian Carreras; great-grandchildren Ayanna Childers, Mila Medici, Aiden Ahlberg, and Meco Medic; sister Effie Wise, Janie (Harold) Dodd, and Carolyn Childers; Brother Carl Childers; brothers-in-law LeRoy Langenwalter, and Virgil (Patti) Langenwalter; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, son Rick Childers, brother Bud Childers, and sister Eveyln Boyd. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
