Doris Saak, 96, of Baxter, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Accura Healthcare Center in Baxter, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019 at Bethany United Church of Christ, in Baxter, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ with Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery in rural Baxter. Doris was born in Marshall County, Iowa on July 7, 1922 to Philip and Minnie (Griebel) Bach. She attended country school as a child then attended Baxter High School where she played the clarinet in the band. She graduated with the Baxter class of 1940. Following school, she attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Doris taught in various country school houses for 4 years. She married the love of her life, Virgil Saak on August 29, 1945. The couple continued farming until 1988 when they moved into Baxter. They did everything together including traveling to more than 20 states, camping, and visiting the Iowa State Fair 68 times together. Doris also was an avid quilter, sewer, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was a member at Bethany United Church of Christ, the Jasper County Historical Society, and the Jasper County Sheep Producers. Those left to cherish Doris's loving memory are her son Wayne Saak; grandchildren Aaron (Katie Linn) Rouse, and Jenn (Julian) State; best friend Ruth Miller; and many friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, daughter-in-law JuliAnn Saak, and brother Robert Bach. Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Doris and her family.
