Evelyn Ferguson, 79, of Baxter passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at her home. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 11a.m.-1 p.m. at the Baxter Community Center located at 203 South Main St., Baxter, Iowa. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Evelyn was born on March 12, 1933 to Fritz and Annita (Goerke) Stubbe in Hamburg, Germany. On December 13, 1958 she married Russell Ferguson in Lanstuhl, Germany. After the death of Russell Evelyn moved to the United States and later became a U.S. citizen in 1969. She relocated to the Des Moines area and made it her home. She operated and owned a popular bar, Evelyn's Highlander, in the Des Moines area for about 7 years. In 1990 Evelyn moved to Baxter to help raise her granddaughter Nicole. She enjoyed spending time with her family, planting flowers and gardening, attending garage sales, and going antiquing. Those left to cherish her loving memories are her daughter, Kitty Ferguson of Baxter; granddaughter, Nicole Ferguson of Baxter; and her brother, Wolfgang Stubbe, of Germany. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
