"Frenchie" Elton Richard, 90, of Polk City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. A private celebration of life and burial will take place at a later date. Frenchie was born on September 25, 1928 in Scott, Louisiana to Whitness and Anita (Robin) Richard. He grew up in Scott and after school joined the Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. After his service to our country he relocated to Lafayette then moved to Iowa for work. He married Phyllis Bumgarner on November 8, 1972 in Princeton, Missouri and the couple moved to Polk City. Frenchie worked as a butcher for various meat lockers until he retired from Hy-Vee in 2005. He loved to spend time with his family, playing pool, going hunting and fishing, camping, gardening, building birdhouses, playing shuffle board, dancing, and playing washboard, tambourine, and spoons with any Cajun band. Those left to remember Frenchie and his wife Phyllis Richard of Polk City, IA; children Ricky (Elaine) Richard of Dover, AR, Wanda (Mike Kaularich) Lowe of Knoxville, IA, Anita (Rodney) Roff of Pleasantville, IA, and Jason (Jamie) Richard of Woodward, IA; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister Dot Rankin; many nieces, nephews, cousin, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Barry Richard, brother J.Y. Richard, and grandson Nicholas. I wish I was your angel to hover over you because only God knows how much I love you.
