Obituary

Glen believed that life was best lived in the company of family and the simplicity of the countryside.

Glen Ray Olson, born on February 8, 1961, in Story City, Iowa, passed away on July 8, 2026, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Glen’s life was marked by deep devotion to his family, a tireless work ethic, and a profound connection to the land he called home.

A proud graduate of Roland Story High School in 1979, Glen embraced his small-town roots, carrying forward the values he learned growing up in Story City. As a young man, he played football and developed a lifelong passion for cars, becoming known to many as a true car enthusiast. Among his most cherished vehicles was his beloved 1970 GTO—a testament to his appreciation for timeless craftsmanship and spirited engineering.

For thirty-five years, Glen worked as a truck driver for Key Co-Operative, where his reliability and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. His career spanned decades of service, culminating in his meeting the rule of 88 and retiring at the age of 51. Glen’s steadfastness behind the wheel and his unwavering commitment to his job spoke volumes about his character.

Outside of work, Glen’s true sanctuary was the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and bowling league brought him immense joy, but it was in the quiet solitude of the woods—what he fondly referred to as his church—where he found his deepest peace. He was an ardent supporter of organizations like Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever, reflecting his commitment to preserving the natural beauty that meant so much to him.

Glen believed that life was best lived in the company of family and the simplicity of the countryside. Living on the farm, he reveled in watching his grandchildren immerse themselves in nature—playing, getting dirty, and learning the values of hard work and imagination, all without the interruptions of internet or modern distractions. Spending time with his children and grandchildren brought Glen unmatched happiness. Even the simple act of mowing the lawn was a source of meditation and therapy for him, grounding him in the rhythms of rural life. His dogs were faithful companions, ever at his side as he inhabited the fields and woods he cherished.

Glen leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory forward: his daughters Tiffany Scott and Tabitha Stille; his sons Anthony Olson and Augustus Olson; his cherished grandchildren Kalina, Rozlynn, Marley, Leo, Maddox, Zion, and Stretson; his sister Lori Westberg; and his brother Greg Olson. He is also lovingly remembered by the memory of his parents, step-father, and son-in-law, Tanner Crooks, who preceded him in death.

Those who knew Glen will remember his straightforward kindness, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his deep sense of loyalty to those he loved. His legacy lives on through the laughter of his grandchildren playing in the Iowa dirt, the stories shared by friends and family, and the enduring spirit of the outdoors that he so loved.

The family thanks all who have expressed their condolences and support during this difficult time. Glen Ray Olson’s presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
