Harold Joseph Heil, 96, of Zearing passed away on December 12, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Overland Park, Kansas. A memorial visitation will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Zearing, Iowa, on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Father Richmond officiating. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.
Harold was born in Fernald, Iowa on July 15, 1928, to William Charles Heil and Elizabeth (Kaufman) Heil. He attended school at St. Anthony School, in St. Anthony, Iowa, and graduated in 1946. He met Irene Stalzer at a dance in Marshalltown and the couple married on November 21,1949, in Haverhill, Iowa. The couple resided in Marshalltown until relocating to a farm outside of St. Anthony in 1952. They farmed together for 25 years until 1978, when they moved to Zearing. Harold then worked for Yocum Construction for over 20 years. Much later in life, he worked with Blattner Energy. Harold was a member of the church council of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and then St. Gabriel's Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Harold served on the Zearing Park and Zearing Community Center boards. Harold loved to spend time with family, travel, camp in their RV, mow and refinish old trunks.
Those left to cherish his loving memories are his children: the late Diane Penning (George) Sorenson, Linda (Steve) Lounsberry, Karen (Lee) Eggers, Janice (Phillip) Launspach, Brian (Kathy) Heil. He is also survived by grandchildren Erin Penning, Ryan (Ashley) Penning, Jeff (Jennie) Lounsberry, Sara (Ryan) Jackson, Katie (Garrett) Miller, Jonathon (Kay) Launspach, Hayes Heil, Harrison Heil; step-grandchildren Dana (Paul) Caspersen, and Jennifer (Chad) Ziesman; great-grandchildren Emmett, Monroe and Lawson Penning, Ethan and Aiden Lounsberry, Rayden and Ryder Jackson, Grace and Gavin Miller, Kaia Launspach; step-great-grandchildren Gabe and Garner Caspersen, Roman and Hudson Ziesman; brothers Richard (Rosalene) Heil and William Heil, in addition to many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Harold was proceeded in death by his wife Irene, his parents, daughter Diane Penning Sorenson, son-in-law Mike Penning, brothers Harlan (Mary Lou) Heil, Ronald (Cheryl) Heil, Jerome (Gwen) Heil, sisters Catherine (Marvin) Dahl, Helen Heil, Bernadine Heil, Isabelle (Babe) Helm, Annabelle (Glen) Stalzer, MaryAnne (Jim) Blazek, and Paul Heil.

Harold's family invites friends to join them at the Zearing Community Center for a time of refreshments and fellowship following the committal service.
