Janice Hofer, 72 of Baxter passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines with her loving family by her side. A memorial visitation will be held at Fredregill Family Funeral Home, in Baxter, from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery at a later date. Janice Gayle Hofer was born on February, 17, 1939 to Henry and Myra (Shaper) Willia in State Center, Iowa. She attended school in Marshalltown, IA. After school she married the love of her life Charles Hofer on July, 2, 1955 and of this union three children were born. She worked as a bookkeeper and cook on the family farm for 50 years. She also worked for the Nationals Farmers Organization for 28 years. Janice wore many hats in her life but most important to her was her role as a mother and grandmother. She had a great love for all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren but more so loved to spoil them all. She loved family get togethers where there was a full house of playing and laughing kids. Janice enjoyed cooking and baking for her large family as well as for friends. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter. Those left to cherish Janice's loving memories are her husband of 56 years Charles; daughter Kathy Williams, of Baxter; two sons, Jerry (Lorna) Hofer, of Baxter, and Roger Hofer of Newton; 10 grandchildren, Johnny (Bonnie) Williams of Baxter, Ryan Williams of Baxter, Ashley (Steve) Sapp of Ira, Rebecca Williams of Baxter, Erica (Joshua) Hiemstra of Baxter, Melody Hofer of Newton, Chad (Misty) Hofer of Baxter, Janell (Scott) Travis of Baxter, Anthony Hofer of Baxter, and Dylan Hofer of Baxter; 16 great-grandchildren, Jessica Hawkins, Stephanie Hawkins, Brandon Hawkins, Robert Hawkins, Stevie Sapp, Jacob Hiemstra, Trevor Hiemstra, Hailey Pierce, Madison Pierce, Lydia Pierce, Josslynn Travis, Mariah Wooster, Alisa Audus, Adriene Audus, Tristan Drake, and Aiden Lewis; 1 great-great-grandchild Dylan Camp; sister Joanie Arney; half brother Bob Willia; step-mother Lorraine Willia; and step-sister Charlene Trinkle. Janice was preceded in death by her parents and her grand-father Conrad Shaper. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Janice's name.
