Janice Elaine Lustgraaf, 70, of Polk City, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by her loving family. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Janice was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 9, 1946 to Merril and Dora (Owens) Hopkins. She attended Abraham Lincoln High School and graduated in 1964. Janice began working as a labor room delivery tech and helped deliver over 700 babies. On August 20, 1965, she married the love of her life, David "Dave" Lustgraaf in Council Bluffs. The couple began their family together and resided in the Council Bluffs area. They worked closely together at their meat market in Minden, Iowa until they retired in 1996 and moved to Polk City, Iowa. After settling in Polk City, she taught pre-school at Discovery Children Center. Janice was a proud member of the National Park and Recreation Association, and was active with Friends of the Library in Polk City. The greatest pride and joy of her life came from her family. She loved spending time with them, most especially her grandchildren. Janice was very active and enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, reading, gardening, and her flowers. Those left to cherish Janice's loving memories are her husband of 51 years Dave Lustgraaf, of Polk City, IA; children Laura (Scott Crouse) Larson of Polk City, IA, and Patrick "Pat" (Sheryl) Lustgraaf of Carter Lake, IA; grandchildren Shawn (Emily) Lustgraaf of Council Bluffs, IA, Emma Larson of Polk City, IA, Cade Larson of Polk City, IA, and Luke Lustgraaf of Carter Lake, IA; great-grandchildren Jovie, Nora, and Caleb Lustgraaf of Council Bluffs, IA; brother Jerry (Bev) Hopkins of Crescent, IA; nephew Mike (Kris) Hopkins of Crescent, IA; niece Nichole Hopkins of Council Bluffs, IA; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter Julie.
