Jean Elizabeth Watts, 81, of Zearing, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Immediately following visitation her memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with
Pastor Chuck Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.
Jean was born in Ottumwa, Iowa to Richard and Margaret (Graf) Watts. Jean lived in Farson, Iowa until she was twelve and her family relocated to a farm south of Zearing. Jean attended the Colo United Methodist Church. She graduated with the first NESCO High School class of 1961. Following high school, she attended Iowa State University and later DMACC where she earned her associate degree in accounting. She worked at the Zearing Library as a librarian, Colo-NESCO schools as a teacher's aide, and at Casey's as a cashier. Her favorite job was raising her kids.
Jean was a member of the Colo United Methodist Church where she served with the United Methodist Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. Recently, Jean spent many hours organizing speakers to present programs at the Zearing Heritage Room. Jean enjoyed baking cookies for the welcome packages delivered to new residents in Zearing. She loved spending time with her family, gardening most especially her strawberry patch, canning, baking, writing letters to her high school pen pal from England, supporting her family by attending recitals and sporting events, and sending birthday cards to everyone.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children April Webb of Des Moines, IA, Al (Cindy) Webb of Zearing, IA, Wendy (Vince) Abel of Pflugerville, TX, and Heather
(Joel) Imhoff of Ames, IA; grandchildren Alex Webb, Jake (Samantha) Webb, Drew Cooper, Katie (Kyle Hinton) Cooper, and Brooke Abel; special friend Dick Schnormeier.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Jacquelyn Brady.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethel United Methodist Church or the ALS Association in West Des Moines.
