Obituary

Joan Patricia Cupp, 79, of Polk City, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Polk City United Methodist Church from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Her funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Hugh Stone officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Joan was born, the youngest of five siblings, on November 11, 1939 in Newell, Iowa to John and Edna (Olsen) Miller. She attended school in Storm Lake and graduated with the class of 1958. She married Gail Beauvais on July 26, 1959. The couple relocated to Altoona, then Pleasant Hill where they raised their family. She was a stay at home mother until her kids were raised, then she began working for Meredith. Joan took an administrator position with Principal Financial. Gail passed away in 1990. Joan was later introduced to Larry Cupp and on May 17, 1997 the two families joined into one. Larry and Joan lived in Granger, Ankeny, and Polk City. Joan was a member of the Polk City United Methodist Church in Polk City. She loved to spend time with her family and to watch her grandkid's sporting events. Joan also enjoyed shopping, traveling, reading science fiction and mysteries, camping, and eating sweets and desserts. Joan was a very strong, sweet lady who never complained and will be greatly missed by her family. Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband Larry Cupp of Polk City, IA; children Sheryl (Kelly) Beauvais of Ames, IA, Terry (Mike) Spencer of Altoona, IA, Chris (Dave) Mullins of Ankeny, IA, Jeff (Barb) Cupp of Waukee, IA, and Rob (Angela) Cupp of Polk City, IA; grandchildren Tyler (Rachel) Spencer, Kara (Matt) Grochala, Kaylee (Joe) Carroll, Aaron (Lena) Mullins, Kevin (Stefanie) Mullins, Ashley (Ben) Gipple, Alicia Cupp, Colby Cupp, Carson Cupp, and Carly Cupp; 9 great-grandchildren, of which 4 were born last summer; siblings Jack Miller, Shirley Hamann, and Karen Johnson; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gail, son Cliff, and brother Jim Miller. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Polk City United Methodist Church. Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care, in Polk City, has been entrusted with the care of Joan and her family. Visitation Polk City United Methodist Church 1421 W.
