John Thomas Nizzi, 71, of Clemons, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his home in Clemons, Iowa. Graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing, Iowa. Military honors will be provided by both McCallsburg and Zearing American Legion Post's. He was born September 16, 1942 in Bevier, Missouri to Thomas John and Mary (Fugate) Nizzi. John pitched for the McCallsburg High School baseball team in 1959 when the team went to state. John graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1960. John enlisted in the Marines following school and left in May of 1960 for Camp Pendelton, California. He later was stationed in Hawaii, and Loas. He served 4 years in the Marines Corps and was honorably discharged in 1964. John married his first wife Larraine Lucas in July of 1961 while at Camp Pendelton. They then transferred to Kanioi Marine Base in Oahu, Hawaii. To this union 2 daughters Kimberly Nizzi of Desert Hot Springs, California, and Christine Nizzi (Shaun) Kohrman of Chino Hills, California; 1 son Dion (Sharon) Nizzi of Sandpoint, Idaho; 7 grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren were born. John married Mary Jo (Kuhlman) on November 5, 1966 at St. Anthony, Iowa. Of this union 1 son Michael Nizzi of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Theresa (Paul) Schnepf of Ankeny, Iowa; and 3 grandchildren Colton, Coby, and Maelen Schnepf were born. John worked at Dunham and Bush, as an A-1 Brazer Lead Foreman welder in Marshalltown for 35 years. He retired after 35 years at Dunham and Bush in 2002. From 2004-2010 he worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Marshalltown. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo Nizzi of Clemons, Iowa; Daughter Theresa (Paul) Schnepf of Ankeny, Iowa; 1 son Michael Nizzi of Des Moines, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Brother Jerry (Patty) Nizzi of Portland, Oregon; nieces, and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Tony and Rodney; 2 nieces April Nizzi and Shawna Nizzi. Friends and relatives are invited to lunch at Phil and Sandy McBride's house at 13447 740th Ave. Rural St. Anthony, Iowa immediately following the graveside service. Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing has been entrusted the care of John and his family.
