John Edward Orr, 78, of Baxter, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Baxter Community Center in Baxter. John was born on March 26, 1947, to John William and Doris Lenora (Pershall) Orr. He grew up on a farm south of Baxter and graduated from Baxter High School in 1965. On June 25, 1966, he married Judith Ann Massman. John worked as a carpenter for Loren Hardenburgh Construction until 1969 when he started employment at Maytag. Maytag sent John to school for Journeyman card as a building mechanic. He retired in 2000 after working for 31.5 years. In 1967, John and Judy became the parents of Christopher Webb and in 1970 Nicolle Susanne. In 1974, they moved 2.5 miles east of Baxter where they lived for over 50 years. John was preceded in death by his parents John William and Doris Orr, brother-in-law Jerry Loupee, and nephew Paul Loupee. Survivors are his wife Judith, his children Christopher (Melany) Orr, Nicolle (Jeff) Funke, grandchildren Daniel Funke, Ross Funke, Katherine Funke, Maris (Mitch) Bomgaars, and Madaline Orr, 4 great-grandchildren, and sister Bonnie Loupee. John was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by many. Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of John and his family.
