Obituary

Martia Isenberger,76, formerly of Laurel, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Southern Hills Nursing Home in Osceola, Iowa. Her memorial service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Gene Kubli officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Born on June 11, 1949, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Martia was a beacon of love and joy emanating from the very heart of her family home. The daughter of Levi and Martha (Allspach) Isenberger, she spent her early years nurturing her roots in Clarion, assisting at her parents' hatchery. A new chapter unfolded when her family moved to Baxter, where she thrived—a bright student and an enthusiastic worker at the L&M Steakroom & Mar-Lee Buffet alongside her family. Her high school graduation from Baxter High School in 1967 marked only the first of many accomplishments. After graduation, Martia ventured into the world, leaving a mark in Marshalltown as a skilled meat cutter and later as a compassionate dietary aide at the Iowa Veterans' Home. But it was in the small town of Laurel, where she planted her heart for many years, embracing her role as a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and a gentle caretaker of animals. Throughout her life, she cultivated a special bond with dogs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and rabbits, reflecting her nurturing spirit. Martia's greatest joy, however, blossomed in her role as a mother and grandmother. She opened her heart wide enough for all who entered; family was not defined by blood but by love. Crafting and painting ceramics filled her leisure hours, alongside the companionship of her loyal dogs, especially Lilly and Sammy, who both remained steadfastly by her side. Left to cherish her sweet memory are her son, Dennis (Holly) Runner; her beloved grandchildren, Jenna and Jordan Runner; siblings, Greg Isenberger and Polly Isleman; cherished nieces and nephew, Rion England, Chanel Morris, and Kirstin Madden; countless cousins; and dear friends who were fortunate to share in the warmth of her presence. In her passing, Martia reunites with her beloved parents Martha and Levi, her sister-in-law, Pat Isenberger, and many beloved dogs, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit that will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Memorial contributions may be directed to your local animal rescue in Martia's name. Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the solemn honor of caring for Martia and supporting her family through this time of remembrance.
