Mary Blattel, a lifelong resident of Zearing passed away on January 29, 2012 at the Zearing Healthcare Center. Mary Catherine Perry was born February 21, 1922, the eighth child of Ernest L and Jennie M (Deal) Perry. Mary graduated from Zearing High School in 1940. On December 19, 1945, Mary was united in marriage to Carl John Blattel of Clemons, Iowa. Carl & Mary moved to their longtime residence of 512 North Street in Zearing in 1949. They operated a small farm until Carl's death in 1978. Mary continued to live on her own and make a living until an accident befell her in 2004. She became a resident of the ZHC in 2005. Mary is survived by her two daughters Marianne (Mark) Reetz of Polk City and Carolyn (Ben) Blattel-Britton of Zearing and one sister, Doris Vance of California. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 33 years, her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. The family wishes to thank the Zearing Health Care Center for their kind and loving care of Mary for 6 years. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at the Zearing Christian Church in Zearing. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Zearing Christian Church in Zearing. Condolences may be sent to the family at PO Box 257, Zearing, Iowa.
