Norma "Jean" Brand, 92, of rural Baxter passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 at UnityPoint Hospital in Marshalltown with her loving family by her side. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at the Baxter Evangelical Free Church in Baxter, Iowa. A luncheon will immediately follow service in the church's fellowship hall. Jean was born to John and Gladys (Hotger) Damman in Marshalltown, Iowa on Augugst 26, 1931. She attened and graduated from Medlbourne High School in 1948. Shortly after she graduated she married the love of her life, Duane B. Brand, on September 3, 1948. Jean and Duane settled on the family farm and later began farming. Of this union they had three children. Jean was a very active and hard worker all of her life. She worked at multiple jobs and was a dedicated mom, who attended most of her childrens' various activities in school. She also worked at Marshalltown Instruments for over 20 years. When Duane retired in 1992, the two travelled together to all 50 states. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and travelling. Those left to cherish her memory are her children Cathy Rash, Tim Brand, and Shelly Koons; her grandchildren Justin (Emily) Rash, Jason Brand, Jami (Vince) Param, Alex Koons, Evan Koons, and Ashley (Jack) Beaumont; her great-grandchildren Caden and Maddox Rash, and Paxton and Pria Param; her sister-in-law Marilyn Damman; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Floyd, LeRoy, and Don Damman, and sister Ruth Frohwein, as well as her daughter-in-law Sonja Brand and son-in-law Charles Koons.
