When he was a young child the family relocated to central Iowa and eventually to Des Moines where Ollie attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. After school he enlisted in the Navy. Since he was 18 years old he had his eye on a special lady and after four years of begging Barb Kingery finally went on a date with Ollie. They married only 3 short months later on September 2, 1960 and resided all of their lives together in the Altoona area. Ollie was a "jack of all trades" and could build or fix anything. In 1971 Ollie graduated from the 19th class of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. He served as the Chief of Police for both Granger and Slater. When his health no longer allowed him to serve as a peace officer he went back to his trade as an electrician for Polk County. Ollie had many loves in his life: his Church, his wife Barb, spending time with his family, being a friend to all, and teaching others various skills that he knew so well. He was a faithful member of the Hope Lutheran Church. Those left to cherish Ollie's loving memories are his wife of 51 years Barb; 4 children, Debbie (Craig) Brooks, Carol (Christopher) Lathrop, Steve (Cami) Wright, and Robbie (Katy) Wright; grandchildren, Christopher Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Ashley Brooks, Clayton Wright, Gabe Wright, Greg Wright, Andria Wright, Payton Wright, Blake Geilenfeldt, Brayden Geilenfeldt, Ben Lathrop, and Sam Lathrop, Katie Lathrop,Brian Lathrop ; great grandchildren, Cayden Brooks, Stephanie Hamill, and Liam Hamill; 4 siblings, Mary (Ron) Gutuskie of Des Moines, IA, Woody (Fran) Wright of Oregon, Linda (Neil) Umphress of Oregon, and Marty Nickison (Dave Rawson) of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
