Richard "Dick" Thompson, 83, of McCallsburg, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. A private family graveside service will be held at the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Dick was born on November 17, 1936 in Story County to Oscar and Lottie (Spurling) Thompson. He was raised in McCallsburg and attended McCallsburg High School where he graduated with the class of 1954. In 1956 he started Thompson Auto Salvage in McCallsburg and has ran it ever since. He proudly called it McCallsburg's most outstanding feature. He was member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church, was on the McCallsburg Fire Department for many years, and was on the McCallsburg City Council over the years. He loved collecting everything and always had a vision for his junk, even though not all projects got finished. He also loved old cars and his junkyard cats. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Debbra Thompson of Nevada, IA; many cousins; and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
