Obituary

Richard Dean Valline, aged 83, of Henderson, Nevada, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. A graveside service will be held in his honor at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, Iowa, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Burling officiating. Born on January 5, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, Richard was the beloved son of Haynard and Mary (Brady) Valline. He spent his formative years in Toledo, IA, and moved to Nevada, IA, his Senior year of high school, graduating from Nevada High School in 1961. With a strong sense of duty, Richard enlisted in the US Navy to serve his country proudly. On June 22, 1969, Richard married the love of his life, Janet Dickel, in Reno, Nevada. Together, they returned to Iowa, started a family, and had two sons, Scott and Steve. Richard devoted himself to his family and his work at Fisher Caltrol, where he built a distinguished career as a gas and oil executive over 42 years until his retirement in 2013. In retirement, Richard enjoyed his home in southern Nevada, spoiling his grandkids, nieces, and nephews whenever he could. Those left to cherish his loving memory are his children, Scott (Heather) Valline of Henderson, Nevada, and Steve (Kai) Valline of Anaheim, California; his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Westerlin of Reno, Nevada, Adam Valline of Bakersfield, California, Maggie and Megan Vannavong of Anaheim, California; and his sister Rita Ferneau of Malcom, Iowa, alongside many devoted nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haynard and Mary; his beloved wife Janet; and his brothers Ronnie, Lanney, Haynard "Butch" Jr., Wes, and Mike. Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with Richard's care and is supporting his family through this time. Richard's legacy of love, commitment, and strength will continue to inspire all who knew him.
