Robert Dale Janes, age 84, of Maxwell, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. A memorial service is set for Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Evangelical Free Church in Baxter, Iowa. Visitation begins at 10:00 A.M. with the service beginning at 11:00 A.M. A private family burial will take place at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Afterwards, friends and relatives are invited to lunch in the fellowship hall. Robert was born on September 3, 1939, to Raymond and Irene Janes. He graduated from Baxter High School in 1958. On May 29, 1960, Robert married his high school sweetheart, Pat Hickle. The two were married for 63 years, and were blessed with two sons, Jeff and Todd. Robert worked for Armstrong Tire as a tire builder for many years before retiring and going to work at Hy-Vee in Ankeny briefly. However, his favorite job was always his days driving a school bus. Robert loved antique shows, flea markets, refinishing furniture, and yard work. He was a wonderful helper. He spent much of his time working on his 1894 Victorian home and his yard. Above all else, Robert loved his family and God. Robert is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons Jeff and Todd; daughters-in-law Gayle and Cindy; grandson Luke; and great-grandchildren Koltyn and Aubrey. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Irene Janes; sister Gerry Hart and an infant brother.
