Obituary

Shirley Wanette Kolbe passed away Wednesday January 26th, 2022 at the Heritage Care Center in Cedar Rapids after battling dementia the last few years. A private graveside service will take place this Spring at the Zearing Cemetary. Shirley was born July 24, 1937 to Sam and Waneta (Walker) Good in Zearing Iowa where she grew up. Shirley was united in marriage to Duane Kolbe on April 2, 1955 in Jackson, Minnesota. To this union they had 5 children; Deb (Joe) Norem, David Kolbe, Teresa Zimmerman, Bob Kolbe and Rick Kolbe. Shirley had several grandchildren and great grandchildren, she loved being a Mom and Grandma and anytime spent with family was a joy for her. Shirley was a hard worker her entire life. She owned the Hubbard Cafe and spent many years working at the Zearing Care Center. When Shirley wasn't spending time with her family she loved to sew, paint ceramics, where she had earned many purple and blue ribbons at the State Fair. Shirley resided at the home she grew up in until 3 years ago when she was moved into the nursing home. She spent almost 2 years at the Hallmark care center in Mt Vernon where she got to enjoy many outings and activities along with spending time with her great grandchildren. She still loved to shop, go for car rides and go to Tricia's house to hang out. In June of 2021 her dementia became bad enough that she needed to be moved to Dementia unit and was moved to Heritage Care Center in Cedar Rapids where she passed. Shirley is survived by her children, Deb, David, Bob, Rick and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and 2 life long friends Marcia and Jo Ann. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane, daughter Teresa siblings; Fred Good, Patsy Freese, and Sandra Good.
