Wesley "Samuel" Vos was born to Kenneth "Dean" and Mary Jane (Riddle) Vos on
January 15, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Mitchellville, Iowa and attended
Southeast Polk High School in Runnells, Iowa. Sam Vos passed away on September
30, 2024, surrounded by loving family in the comfort of his own home, which he built
himself.
Sam and Cindi Kyar married and had two children, Becky Lynn and Christina Lynn. Sam
later married Rena Riggs and added two additional children to his family, Jackie Lynn
and Nick. Sam's career was working for Kent Feeds for 33 years as a Maintenance
Supervisor before he was fortunate enough to retire early in 2002. Alongside his dad,
son, and grandson, Sam also spent several years working for many local farmers which
he enjoyed greatly.
Sam, like his parents, enjoyed having a large garden for many years. He was often
impressed with the size of the produce grown and had more than enough to share with
several people. Sam could often be found tinkering around in the shop working on a
project of his own or maybe a family members vehicle. If not in the shop, holding down
the couch watching one of his favorites "Big Brother," "Survivor," "Gunsmoke,"
"Bonanza," "The Rifleman," or "The Andy Griffin Show." A much slower pace of life after
owning a ski boat and slalom skiing or skiing barefoot even though he never learned to
swim. Sam enjoyed giving each of his grandchildren their own unique nicknames.
Those left to cherish Sam in loving memory are his girlfriend of 27 years, Janet
Strickland; children, Becky Courtney, Christina Vos, Jackie Vos, Nick (Candy) Vos;
grandchildren, Brad (Chelsie) Courtney, Emily Vos, Taylor Bush, Morgan (Braden) Vos, Justin
Vos, Wesley Vos, Raelynn Vos, Sydney (Sam) Vos, and Jasper (Bridgit) Vos; 7 great-
grandchildren; siblings, Haroldine Neatherry and Betty Jo (Ron) Hobbs; along with a
host of many nieces and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Mary; son-in-law, Craig Courtney;
brother-in-law, Bob Neatherry; and nephew, Timothy Neatherry.
