Wilma Jean Gray, 95, of Zearing, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Her funeral will immediately follow and begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Poppe officiating. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing, Iowa.
Wilma was born on January 21, 1928 in Hardin County Iowa to Arthur and Ida (Strate) Walters. She attended country school Pleasant Hill, Grant #7 and then Zearing High School where she graduated with the class of 1946. After school, she married William "Jr." Gray on June 25, 1947, in Hubbard. The couple moved to Zearing where they raised their family together. Wilma was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, the Zearing American Legion Lady Auxillary, and the Zearing Civic Improvement. She had a great love for spending time with her family, gardening, flowers, traveling, the Ozarks, going to Stratford and listening to Blue Grass, and feeding and watching birds.
Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Bruce (Rosie) Gray of Zearing, IA, Judie (Jim) Carver of Rockwell City, IA, and Jim Gray of Story City, IA; grandchildren Robbie (Jenny) Gray, Stuart (Steph) Gray, Brian (Missy) Carver, Jason Carver, Kevin (Brandie) Carver, Wendy (Bobby) Brachle, Jeff (Laurie) Gray; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Donna Weisser and Merle Walters; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother David Walters, and great-great granddaughter Dixie Rayne.
